It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults.
There’s currently no cure, but there are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it does not have a big impact on your life. Learn more.
How often you should have a review
You should have a review at least once every year if you are living with asthma.
The nurse may also request you have interim reviews to see how you’re managing on your current treatment plan where necessary.
What happens in the appointment
In the appointment, you may:
- talk about your symptoms – for example, if they’re affecting your normal activities or are getting worse
- discuss your current treatment– including if you think you might be experiencing any side effects and if you need to be reminded how to use your inhaler
- be offered a breathing test
It’s also a good chance to ask any questions you have or raise any other issues you want to discuss.
You may be asked to help monitor your condition between appointments.
